जनऔषधि स्‍कीम

In 2008 Department of Pharmaceuticals started the Jan Aushadhi Scheme which seeks to provide to the common man good quality generic medicines at very reasonable and affordable prices through Jan Aushadhi Stores (JAS) all over the country. The scheme aimed to provide, in the first phase, at least one JAS in every district. Due to various reasons, including lack of cooperation from some state governments and the starting of free drug policy in government hospitals in some states, the Jan Aushadhi Scheme has not been very successful. As on 31.5.15 only 108 Jan Aushadhi Stores are functioning. The shortcomings are being analysed and a revised scheme is being worked out. Efforts are being made to ensure that the scheme is successful and the motto of the scheme is achieved.
The scheme is administered by the Bureau of Pharma PSUs of India (BPPI). Details about the scheme and BPPI are available in the website of BPPI namely janaushadhi.gov.in
